Sports in Ramadan

In the month of Ramadan, invitations, banquets, and sweets of all kinds abound, and some of us cannot deprive ourselves of these delicious foods, so there must be movement and physical activity to burn those extra calories. Exercising while fasting is not easy, especially when it's hot. Researching the best time for you will be a major key to keeping your exercise routine safe and sustainable.

Find the time that works for you:

If you can exercise on an empty stomach, or if you are not thirsty, you can exercise before iftar. Exercising while fasting can be challenging and it's important to do so safely. Most importantly, listen to your body and enjoy the exercise.

Pre-breakfast exercises:

The time before Iftar, the weather is better and the sun has subsided, then you can drink water to avoid dehydration after you finish your exercise. However, the exercise at this time should be low intensity and repetitions, using body weight, and more stretching. This is a good time to take a short walk or jog.

Post-breakfast exercises:

Exercising two to three hours after breakfast, as during this period food is digested efficiently and comfortably so that energy is extracted and recharged to the body’s organs. Specialists say that the desired benefit of exercising after breakfast is that it stimulates and accelerates the metabolism and burning of energy taken from the food consumed.

Make it your goal to maintain your fitness level:

Aim to maintain your fitness levels rather than start a new or intense exercise regimen. And you may have to adjust your regular regimen to reduce the length and intensity of your exercise. If you used to exercise for 60 minutes, reduce the duration of exercise to 30-45 minutes before breakfast.

Ramadan is not an excuse for not exercising and physical inactivity. You can arrange your schedule and put sports as one of your priorities so that you can enjoy the month of obedience while you are healthy and active, away from laziness and lethargy.
